Antique hand tools – PREMIUM QUALITY saw #168. Up for sale is a legendary Premium Quality Disston No:8 Cross Cut Panel SAW that dates to 1887, freshly hand sharpened & set. The saw plate is made from Disstons Spring Steel & it has an absolutely gorgeous applewood “lambs tongue” handle that just fits your hand like a glove, this saw has the rare inset medallion with the reversed patent date stamp- December 27.1887, it’s just absolutely superb. 24.5 / 620mm plate, 10PPI cross cut profile. This saw has been hand sharpened to 15 degrees of rake, 25 degrees of fleam as per Disstons standard cross cut angles. This saw is for the woodworker that is happy to work unplugged, you’ll know what I mean when you read this, it’s like fast food vs slow food, it’s getting back to the heart of woodworking & using your hands, not flicking a switch. Please note any blue colour you can see on the tooth line is engineers set out fluid- my saw Dr uses it to keep track of where he’s filed- if you’ve ever sharpened a saw that will make sense to you. This saw is in authentic vintage restored condition, freshly sharpened & set, there is just the stub of the nib, there is a near full etch, a small patch of pitting between the etch & tooth line, the handle has a small professional repair to the rear bottom horn in applewood. It’s a lovely fine fast cutting 10PPI panel saw, ready to go to work in the discerning workshop, it has a super fine taper ground plate & is a joy to use, the handle is crisp & fits the hand like a well worn glove.
