Antique hand tools – PREMIUM QUALITY tenon saw #216. Up for sale is a gorgeous Premium Quality ROBERT SORBY 16 Brass Backed Rip TENON SAW. This saw is 16 / 406mm long plate & a rip profile of 11PPI, 82mm deep at the toe & 88mm at the heel, it’s been hand sharpened with 5° rake. Robert Sorby & Sons were making saws in Sheffield from 1833 until 1971, judging by the die stamps on the spine & the style of medallion, this tenon saw most likely dates to around 1870, the heavy folded brass back tapers from 27mm wide at the handle down to 23mm at the toe. This saw is for the woodworker that is happy to work unplugged, you’ll know what I mean when you read this, it’s like fast food vs slow food, it’s getting back to the heart of woodworking & using your hands, not flicking a switch. Overall length – 53cm. This saw is in authentic vintage condition, wear and tear consistent with age and use, it’s freshly hand sharpened, some scattered pitting to the blade, the handle has some heavy wear to the front cheek & a professionally done repair to the top horn, it’s a lovely brass backed tenon saw by one of the better English makers, ready to go to work ripping tenons for the discerning woodworker.
