Usu nomi (aka paring chisel) 42mm, made by Kiyohisa . Hand forged by blacksmith Watanabe Koyoei from Sanjo, Niigata. This was made later on in the blacksmith’s career his most sought after tools are made in this period. This chisels was forged roughly 5-6 years ago. The laminated steel has now stabilized and warping is no longer a concern (newly forged tools will warp as they age). Hand filed finish is exquisitely done. Chamfered blade profile (mentori). Excellent condition, basically new. Full blade length, superb back hollow. Black oxide near perfectly intact. Chisel comes sharp, ready to use, and with a cutting edge that is free of chips or dents. There are some very small blemishes on the blade bevel from storage. Comes oiled and protected with camellia oil all natural corrosion inhibiting oil made from green tea plant. Handle is made of Japanese red oak. A lifetime tool that you will never grow out of. No longer obtainable, VERY difficult to source. Please ask any questions you may have. Best offers are welcome. Used vintage set of Japanese Tsuki nomi or paring chisels. These beautiful tools came to me in a set and although not all matching makers, I decided to keep them as a set. They are very well priced and will make an ideal starter set. It was fairly easy to sharpen and in very good conditions. The handles are firm, no split and original. The set includes a 18x393mm, a 24x495mm, 36x313mm and a 40x500mm. These would be a lot more individually priced. Not easy to find a set at this price!
