An exceptional, large-scale late 18th / early 19th-century hand-forged wing divider attributed to the renowned English toolmaker Peter Stubs (Warrington, established 1773). This large 10.5-inch example features the early stamped initials “P” on one leg and “S” on the other, applied during forge work. Large 18th-century dividers from Stubs of this scale are far scarcer than standard bench-sized tools. Key Details & Dimensions:? Total Length: 10.5 Inches (26.5 cm) from pivot hinge to tips. Maximum Span: Opens up to an impressive 14 Inches (35.5 cm). Construction: Hand-beaten wrought iron with a peened pivot joint, curved quadrant locking wing arc, straight scribe tips, and original thumbscrew. Markings: Distinctly hand-stamped “P” and “S” on the upper legs. Condition Report: Authentic antique condition with a dark, aged patina and light surface weathering consistent with 200+ years of age. For sale is a large very rare Antique English Made Peter Wright heavy gun armourers repair vice, vice dated 1880, carries the British army crowsfoot stamp, it has 6 jaws which have plenty of years grip left in them, they open to just over massive 11, t o accommodate large artillery pieces, length when closed is 23, when fully open its over 33 long, it weighs in at approximately 50kgs, other numbers and letters stamped on it are 1144,40b, winding handle is 19 long, it is in fantastic condition for its age , no cracks damage or rust, Ive degreased, cleaned and buffed it, it shows obvious signs of use, has not been neglected or abused over the years, it was stored dry and mounted on a bench for many years, Ive left the main screw thread bare so you can see its condition (no wear), new owner can grease it up, made by peter wright of Birmingham England who was the original patent holder for the closed box screw thread, this was the design all other vice makers followed, this is a very early vice, he didnt start putting his makers name on his vices till after the start of the 1900s, for obvious commercial reasons, good heavy duty bench vice, perfect for forge, blacksmith/ engineer, heavy vintage toolshop/garage, or vintage display or prop, comes with its 4 original fixing bolts, v ery rare collectors piece, Collection only or iam happy for you to arrange your own courier.
